Chapel Lane Presbyterian Church seeks part-time Director of Christian Education for Children and Youth

Chapel Lane Presbyterian Church is a nurturing and caring congregation of approximately 200 members. We are an active church, with programs and activities guided by our vision: “Growing a Faith That Must Be Shared.”

Chapel Lane is currently seeking a part-time DCE to begin employment in July. It is an ideal position for someone seeking the flexibility of a part-time role and who loves to have fun with children and youth. The role requires an average of 18 hours per week during the school year with 8 weeks off during the summer.  Compensation will reflect experience and education with an annual compensation ranging from $10,000 to $15,000.

  • demonstrates strong Christian values
  • has previous experience working with children and youth
  • is self-motivated and an enthusiastic, high energy person with a passion for leading children and youth in growing their faith
  • is a team-oriented leader with the confidence and ability to provide guidance and support to participants and volunteers
  • exhibits strong planning and organizing, administrative, time management, and follow-through skills
  • has effective written and verbal communication skills

Part-time Director of Christian Education for Children & Youth

 

Chapel Lane is seeking an enthusiastic, high energy Director of Christian Education (DCE) who will develop and lead effective programs for our children & youth.

 

Role Responsibilities

  • Nurture others in growing their faith and encourage their engagement in church and community life;
  • Build connected and caring relationships with children, youth, and families;
  • Develop a plan for educational programs that incorporates learning, mission, and social aspects;
  • Develop, implement, and actively participate in specific learning, fellowship, service programs, mission trips, and other activities designed to engage attendees of different ages and learning styles;
  • Effectively collaborate with staff, volunteers, and the Board of Christian Education (BOCE);
  • Attend monthly BOCE meeting, provide updates, receive feedback, share observations, and present proposals;
  • Lead and teach a weeknight after-school youth education program(s); assist with worship (on average) two Sundays per month;
  • Collaborate with Pastor and Camp Director in planning the education activities for the Chapel Lane Youth Summer Camp and attend if available in June;
  • Collaborate with other area churches in seeking additional children & youth opportunities;

 

Skills and Competencies

  • A Self-motivated, energetic individual with a passion for leading children and youth in growing their faith;
  • A knowledge of one’s own theological beliefs, an openness to learning the Presbyterian theology, and the ability and maturity to help others increase their faith through positive dialog;
  • A team-oriented leader with the confidence, ability, enthusiasm, and excitement to provide guidance and support to participants and volunteers;
  • Effective written and verbal skills and experience in promoting programs and activities, including the effective use of social media and other technology (Facebook, Twitter, websites, etc.) to increase awareness, enthusiasm, and participation in activities;
  • Ability to identify youth and family’s needs and to design, develop, and implement programs to engage individuals of varying learning styles;
  • Exhibits strong planning and organization, administrative, time management, and follow-through skills;

 

Experience

A minimum of two years’ involvement in children’s/youth ministry or teaching children and youth

 

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Education or Christian Education preferred

 

Compensation

  • Role requires an average of 18 hours per week during the school year, 8 summer weeks off
  • Budget provided for Continuing Education opportunities
  • Annual compensation of $10,000 - $15,000 based on experience
